Instagram is a good place if you’re trying to follow your favorite celebrities. It can also be a good place to draw inspiration from if you’re looking for design ideas, photography, architecture, and so on. Now it looks like Instagram is testing out a way that will allow college students to find each other on social media.

In a report from CNBC, Instagram is testing a college community feature that will let students find other students through class-based lists. This means that users who go to college together should be able to find each other and become friends. Alternatively it can be a good way for students to find out what other students are doing on campus and discover new group outings or events that they can attend.

As to how users are verified (presumably to stop people from masquerading as students), Instagram will check the information that users have publicly shared about their university, the accounts they follow, and their connections. However it doesn’t seem to be working quite as well yet as one CNBC reporter was allowed to register as an acting student even though they weren’t one, but Instagram claims that the test is in its early stages so naturally there are bugs.

What’s interesting enough is that it was also recently that it was discovered that Facebook was testing out a similar-ish feature as well. However instead of college, Facebook will attempt to identify other users who might have something in common with you.
