There’s a lot of excitement among Star Wars fans for Episode IX as a lot of questions still need to be answered before this new trilogy can be concluded. Much of the cast will remain the same but there will be some additions as new characters will be introduced in the movie. Matt Smith, known for his roles in The Crown and Doctor Who, is now expected to be a part of the upcoming Star Wars movie.

Variety reports that Matt Smith has signed on to the project and that he will be appearing in the ninth feature film in the Star Wars franchise. No details have been provided as yet about the character Smith will be playing in the movie.

The scribe does mention that Smith is going to be playing a key role in Episode IX but it’s as yet unknown if he’ll be a part of the Resistance or not. He will be joining returning cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. The other new additions to the franchise include Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan, among others.

Mark Hamill will be returning as Luke Skywalker while Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.
