CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher series has officially come to an end, at least as far as the current trilogy is concerned. However a spinoff called Gwent was announced a couple of years ago which is based on a minigame within The Witcher series, and now it looks like another spinoff has been confirmed.

Dubbed “Thronebreaker”, this spinoff is funnily enough based on Gwent. Yup, you are not mistaken. A spinoff just got its own spinoff. Basically it seems the experience has gotten so big to the point where the developers felt that it might need its own game to allow the story to properly develop.

Thronebreaker will be a single-player RPG and will apparently be Witcher-like in terms of decision-making and combat. Unfortunately details are a bit scarce in this point in time, such as features of the game, or when it will be released. However given that CD Projekt Red has been known to take their time with the development of their games, maybe don’t hold your breath on seeing its release anytime soon.

In the meantime you can sort of get an idea of the direction Thronebreaker will be heading in the trailer above which is for the story campaign for Gwent that was released last year.
