These days there is a lot of emphasis placed on being connected all the time, which has also extended to our vehicles where we’re starting to see more cars have the option to get online. Of course this isn’t designed to let you surf the web while you drive, but rather it will let users use navigation services, access entertainment such as videos, make calls, and so on.

That being said not all vehicles have the ability to go online, and if you don’t plan on buying a new car anytime soon, not to worry because AT&T and Harman have worked together to create the Harman Spark. This is a device that connects to your car’s OBD-II and will essentially turn it into a connected vehicle with internet.

However it is more than just about internet as it will offer up various tools as well, such as alerting users if their car is being stolen, provide roadside assistance, act as a WiFi hotspot, and even geofencing which might come in handy for companies or parents if they want to be alerted if a car drives out of the geofenced area.

The best part is the because it uses the OBD-II port, it will work with pretty much any vehicle made after 1996, which should cover the majority of car owners. The Harman Spark will be exclusive to AT&T and is expected to be made available on the 28th of September for $80, and will also require users to purchase a plan whose pricing will vary depending on your needs. More information about the Harman Spark can be found on AT&T’s website.
