Several months ago, Lyft announced a month-long challenge dubbed #DitchYourCar. The idea is that the company wants to encourage users to stop driving and instead rely on ride-sharing/hailing services, such as Lyft, to get around. The challenge is to see if they will be able to do so for a month.

It seems like maybe the first challenge was a success because Lyft has since announced that they will be expanding the challenge to 35 new cities in the US. According to Lyft, “Today, Lyft is proud to announce Ditch Your Car, a program offering passengers transportation credit to give up their cars for 30 days from Oct. 8 to Nov. 6. Participants will have access to Lyft Shared (in available markets), Zipcar, local transit and bike share partners in more than 35 cities nationwide.”

Those interested in the challenge can sign up via Lyft’s website, although as Lyft points out, challengers will be chosen at random so it’s not a guarantee that if you sign up, you will get in. Those who have been successfully chosen will be given transportation credits that they can use towards Lyft’s various services, including Lyft Shared and Zipcar, along with local transit and bike share partners.

Lyft had earlier this month announced their commitment to go fully carbon neutral, so we imagine that by reducing the number of cars on the roads, this challenge will help them work towards their goal.
