Chinese smartphone manufacturers are not shying away from putting technologies in smartphones that some major brands are yet to adopt. Case in point, the in-display fingerprint sensor. While rumors have suggested for years that Samsung will be launching a device with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the display, multiple Chinese smartphone manufacturers are already selling such devices and now OnePlus is going to join that list.

OnePlus has a habit of releasing a slightly updated variant of its flagship killer smartphone every year. With the OnePlus 6 being released several months ago the company is now gearing up to launch the OnePlus 6T. It has confirmed to CNET that the OnePlus 6T is going to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.

OnePlus will be calling this new feature Screen Lock. “We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action,” the company says, adding that “By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.”

OnePlus has also revealed that it originally wanted to introduce this technology with the OnePlus 5T but decided against it as the in-display fingerprint sensing technology wasn’t mature enough at that time for OnePlus to deliver a fast and smooth user experience. The OnePlus 6T is expected to be announced in the next couple of months.
