Due to the size of smartphones, the camera sensors used need to be small which leads to certain restrictions in terms of what it can and cannot do. This is why many smartphones employ the use of dual, or even triple cameras to get around certain limitations and to achieve certain shots that are typically found from bigger cameras, like DSLRs or mirrorless.

However it seems that Samsung could be taking that one step further because as if a triple lens camera on the Huawei P20 Pro wasn’t enough, Samsung could be upping the ante by launching a smartphone with a quadruple camera setup. This is according to a tweet by Ice Universe in which it was also hinted that the device in question could launch this year.

It is interesting that Samsung would launch a device this year with such a complex setup that isn’t on a flagship smartphone. Samsung typically releases two such devices a year, with the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note series, so it is unclear as to which family of devices this quadruple camera could land up in.

It is possible that this could end up being in Samsung’s foldable phone, which the company recently confirmed will finally be debuting later this year. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Is the quadruple camera setup taking it a bit too far?
