When it comes to Uber ratings of drivers and riders, it works both ways where riders might not be comfortable with the idea of a driver with a low rating, and drivers might be less willing to pick up a rider with a low rating. Those are some of the implications behind low ratings, but it looks like it could be taken further.

In a report from the Wall Street Journal (via 9to5Mac), it seems that Uber riders with low ratings, such as those below a four out of five, could be banned from the service. This new requirement seems to have gone into testing in Australia and New Zealand and was confirmed by Susan Anderson, Uber’s general manager for the region.

Anderson spoke with Australian morning TV show “Sunrise” where she also stated that riders with low ratings will be given an opportunity to increase their ratings before being banned. We’re not sure how this will work since ratings can be subjective and will depend on the driver and how they rate their passengers.

However according to Uber, they say that drivers mostly look for mutual respect from their riders, such as greeting each other when getting in and out of their cars. Also behaviors that could lead to lower ratings include eating in the car (unless explicitly allowed by your driver), slamming the door, and so on.
