It is no secret that the Nintendo Switch isn’t the most powerful modern day console around at the moment, especially in this day and age where we’re seeing companies like Sony and Microsoft tout their console’s ability to play games in 4K. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Epic has disabled one of Fortnite’s features for the Switch.

In a post on Reddit, Epic confirmed that in a bid to help improve performance of the game on the Switch, they had to disable the video capture function. This means that gamers who are hoping to record their Fortnite gaming sessions on the Nintendo Switch will no longer be able to do so, short of hooking up a camera and pointing it at their console’s screen.

According to Epic, “You may have noticed we’ve disabled the Video Capture feature on Nintendo Switch as of the v5.40.2 client update. This was done for performance and stability reasons as we’ve been seeing a high rate of Out of Memory related crashes. Disabling this feature saves a significant amount of RAM while also having a positive effect on overall performance across the board.”

However the semi-good news is that Epic is thinking of potentially reintroducing the feature in the game in the future. They note that video capture could become an optional feature for players who don’t mind “taking a hit on performance”. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen, but the door is open.
