When we give presentations or speeches, we almost always take it for granted and assume that everyone in the audience can hear us, as in no one is suffering from any hearing issues. However that isn’t always the case, but at the same time we understand that maybe not everyone wants to create captions just to cover such an eventuality.

The good news is that if you were to use Google Slides, Google will actually do all the hard work for you. Google has announced that its Slides presentation software will now be able to automatically add captions to your presentation, thus making it easier for those who are hard on hearing to follow your presentation.

According to Google, “The closed captions feature is available when presenting in Google Slides. It uses your computer’s microphone to detect your spoken presentation, then transcribes—in real time—what you say as captions on the slides you’re presenting […] As you start speaking into your device’s microphone, automated captions will appear in real time at the bottom of your screen for your audience to see.”

However the bad news is that this feature will only be supported by US English at the moment, and assuming you present using a laptop/desktop computer using the Chrome browser. The good news is that Google is looking to expand the feature’s availability to more countries and languages over time, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for.
