There is often a perception that cheaper equals lousier. After all for a product to be priced lower than others, there is a good chance that certain “sacrifices” have to be made since it wouldn’t make sense for a company to willingly choose to make a loss on a product that they sell. Is that the case with the iPhone XR?

That’s what YouTuber JerryRigEverything is trying to find out in the video above, where he puts the iPhone XR through the ringer in a variety of durability tests to see if the cheaper iPhone is as durable as its more expensive counterpart, the iPhone Xs and Xs Max. Spoiler alert: yes, for the most part it is just as durable.

For those who are wondering about the physical differences between both phones, especially since they both look alike, it is mainly in the choice of metal. The iPhone Xs and Xs Max use a combination of stainless steel and glass for the chassis of the phone, while the iPhone XR uses aluminum, which has been the choice material for pretty much the majority of iPhones launched to date.

However the decision to use aluminum means that when scratched, it is more obvious compared to stainless steel. This won’t really be much of a problem for those who use a protective case with their phones, but it could be something to consider anyway. If you have a few minutes to spare, then it could be worth checking out the video above if you’d like a better idea of the phone’s overall durability.
