One of the “problems” with a lot of phones going full screen these days is that there needs to be a place for the front-facing cameras and sensors to go, thus resulting in notch. This is a feature that you either love or hate, but if ASUS has their way, it seems that the company is testing out various designs for its ZenFone 6 handset.

This is according to a recent video uploaded to YouTube by Rodrigo Portella and Rede Geek who claims to have obtained genuine prototype photos of the handset in question. The videos show the different prototypes that ASUS has come up with, but there was one that caught our attention, in which ASUS had cut out a small hole where the front camera will reside.

This will allow the phone to have more screen real estate since the hole is smaller than the notch, although we have to admit that in terms of distractions, the hole does seem to be more distracting than the notch. There was another design that also featured a similar cutout, except that the cutout comes from the top of the phone much like a water drop, although once again we have to say it is pretty distracting.

That being said there’s no way to tell if any of these prototypes are the real deal, but if it is true, it wouldn’t be the first time a company has thought up of a way to eliminate or reduce the notch. Samsung is also said to be exploring similar ideas where they are thinking that maybe a camera and sensors that can work underneath a display could eliminate the need for a notch (or cutout) completely.
