Taking a phone to an official repair center can be expensive, which is why many people turn to third-party services which aren’t official but usually offer much cheaper rates. However if you think that you’re more than capable of repairing your own phone, then you might be interested to learn that Motorola and iFixit have teamed up to offer an official DIY repair kit.

This repair kit will have the tools you’ll need to open up your device, and the pricing of the kit will vary depending on the problem at hand. For example for just $35, you should be able to replace the battery on your Moto X, but that might get more expensive if you’re looking to do a screen repair for other Motorola phones, with the price going up to $200.

Whether or not this will actually be cheaper than sending it to a third-party will depend since different repair shops might charge differently, but given that this is an official repair kit, if you like having that peace of mind knowing that your replacement components are official, then we suppose this is one way to go about it.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, then head on over to iFixit’s website to see the various repair kits that they have available for Motorola phones.
