Sony today announced the new Cyber-shot HX99. The company claims that it’s the world’s smallest travel high zoom camera. The zoom range of 24-720mm is said to be in the world’s smallest camera body of its kind. The camera is aimed at travelers or casual photographers and promises extensive functionality including the ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-720mm high magnification zoom lens.

The camera is capable of recording 4K video while the BIONZ X image processing engine with a front-end LSI powers fast autofocus, 10 fps shooting, and more. It’s possible to capture slow-motion video up to 120 frames per second with this camera as well.

The lens features Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to minimize shake and blur during both handheld and telephoto shooting. There’s a Zoom Assist feature which lets the user zoom more accurately by providing a quick, temporary zoom-out display to showcase a wider area.

Sony’s Eye AF technology is present too. It was popularized by the company’s well regarded α interchangeable lens cameras that are capable of locking focus on the subjects eye for great portraits. There’s a 180 degree tiltable LCD screen for easy framing of group shots and self portraits.

Sny has confirmed that the new Cyber-shot HX99 camera will be available for purchase next month for $449.99.
