You can get a car at any time you want with Uber. Just launch the app, punch in your destination, and you’ll be on your way soon enough. It dominates the on-demand ride-hailing market in key regions across the globe and as the company gears up for its potential IPO next year, it appears to be looking into additional businesses. One of those businesses could involve providing staff to business partners on-demand and it may be called Uber Works.
TechCrunch hears from a source close to Uber that the company is developing an on-demand staffing business to provide short-term staff to businesses. It will send independent contractors such as waiters and security guards for events and corporate functions.
The company has reportedly been working on this project for a few months in Chicago after trying it out first in Los Angeles. Uber already has a massive network of drivers that know how to file taxes as an independent contractor. They could be looking for additional work so Uber seeks to leverage that to launch this business.
Uber Works may be limited as a business-to-business project initially and whether or not it’s expanded any further remains to be seen. Uber is yet to officially confirm anything about such a project.
