Say you’re trying to plan a surprise party for a friend or family member, and you need to let your guests know that you are on the way back. One of the ways you can do so is by sharing your ETA with them, a feature which Google Maps had recently launched. However what if you weren’t driving? What if you were taking the bus or train?

For those who take public transport but would still like to share their ETA with others, then you will be interested to learn that Google has announced that the ETA sharing feature will now work with public transportation for buses and trains. This won’t just include the journey of the bus or train, but it will also include the time it might take you to walk from one station to the other in the event you need to interchange, or walking from the station to the destination.

Apart from being able to share ETA for public transportation, the rest of the ETA feature will work the same as previously. This means that you can share your ETA via a number of methods including through third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. At the moment it has been reported that this seems to be only live for the Android version of Google Maps, but as expected it is probably just a matter of time before the iOS version is updated with similar features as well.
