Marvel is a company that many are familiar with, where even if you’re not necessarily a fan of comic books, the company has helped to create plenty of superhero characters that have gone on to have very successful movies. Now it looks like Marvel will be expanding their publishing duties where in a team up with Riot, they will start publishing League of Legends comics.

According to the announcement, “The series will kick off with an origin story — LEAGUE OF LEGENDS: ASHE: WARMOTHER will follow the journey of one of the original League of Legends champions, the Iceborn warrior Ashe, who struggles with her role as a leader for her people in the world of Runeterra and her mother’s fanatical expectations.”

Along with Valve’s DotA 2, Riot’s League of Legends is also an extremely popular MOBA title. It is played competitively around the world and just like DotA 2, there are plenty of streamers on Twitch who stream League of Legends games. While Riot could have easily published the comics themselves, a team up with Marvel will no doubt help to spread awareness of the game even further.

According to C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel, “Many fans of the Marvel Universe and comics share their interests and passion for storytelling with the gaming community. ‘League of Legends’ is one of the most well-known games in the industry, and their unique world and extensive roster of rich characters and are a perfect fit for comic books. We’re excited to partner with Riot and help build the League of Legends Universe for fans and players around the world.”  The first comic is expected to be available come May 2019.
