Contracts are fine if you are hoping to get a phone whose prices are subsidized, and if you don’t mind sticking with a carrier for the next 2 years or so. However if you enjoy the freedom of being able to switch between carriers, then buying a phone that isn’t locked to a particular carrier might be the way to go.

If the iPhone XR is a phone that you’ve been eyeing, then you might be interested to learn that the SIM-free iPhone XR model is now available for purchase from Apple. The phone itself is priced starting at $749 for the base 64GB model, $799 for the 128GB model, and $899 for the 256GB model.

Note that these are the full prices you’ll have to pay upfront for the phone since you won’t be signing a contract with any carrier, but like we said the upside here is that you get to have the freedom of switching between carriers and won’t have to deal with unlocking your phone when you want to travel overseas and use a local SIM.

The iPhone XR represents Apple’s more affordable iPhone lineup for 2018, with the base model being priced a good $250 cheaper than the iPhone Xs. The phone sports a 6.1-inch LCD Liquid Retina display and a single rear-facing camera. It also has 1GB less RAM than the iPhone Xs, but for the most part both phones share similar hardware specs.
