If you ever needed a reason to get into app development, the latest stats by App Annie (via TechCrunch) might convince you. This is because according to their latest figures, it appears that the number of app downloads that took place in 2018 is 113 billion, and this represents a 10% increase from the previous year.

It also seems that not only are people downloading more apps, but it seems that they might be spending more on apps as well. App Annie claims that spending worldwide has increased by 20% year-over-year at $76 billion. Note that these figures are the combined total from both iOS and Android platforms, and it has been pointed out that since these figures don’t include those from third-party Chinese app stores, it is possible that these figures could be even higher with those numbers taken into consideration.

The report also claims that mobile gaming is the most popular and profitable gaming format, which is unsurprising when you consider how much money Epic was estimated to have been earning with Fortnite Battle Royale. It also seems that subscriptions are on the rise which has helped to drive consumer spending, which is why companies such as Apple were found to have been encouraging its developers to start adopting the subscription model.
