Optimizing a smartphone is more than just focusing on hardware, it is also about software as well where the software will try to balance out what the hardware can or cannot do. This is why stuffing as much power or RAM into a smartphone doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s better, but we suppose from a marketing perspective, it does make a device look more attractive.

In fact according to a report from Gizchina, images shared on Weibo shows that Lenovo’s upcoming Lenovo Z5s Ferrari Edition could come with a whopping 12GB of RAM. Why it needs that much RAM is anyone’s guess, but phone is being positioned as a gaming handset so maybe it’s just trying to prove how powerful it is. Of course whether or not there are mobile games that actually require that much RAM is unclear, but it’s there if you need it.

We’ve been seeing how companies have been pushing the limits of how much RAM can be stuffed into a phone. For example OnePlus recently unveiled the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition which came with 10GB of RAM, so if the Lenovo Z5s Ferrari Edition is real, it might have them beat with 12GB of RAM.

However like we said, RAM isn’t always everything as we have seen in the past how the iPhone Xs Max with its 4GB of RAM has managed to trump devices that have 8GB of RAM, so while we don’t deny that RAM is vital, it doesn’t always tell the whole story.
