T-Mobile TV Service Launch Now Slated For 2019

T-Mobile CEO John Legere confirmed over a year ago that the carrier was developing its own standalone TV service. He also said that it would be “disruptive.” We haven’t heard much about it from T-Mobile ever since but the company has mentioned in passing today that the T-Mobile TV service launch will take place in 2019. It was actually reported earlier this year that T-Mobile has delayed the service’s launched to 2019.

T-Mobile’s acquisition of online TV provider Layer3 was one of the first steps towards the launch of a full-fledged service. A set-top box meant for this service was also spotted at the FCC not too long ago.

Despite that, T-Mobile didn’t launch its “disruptive” TV service in 2018. The slow pace at which it was acquiring mobile distribution rights for its programming agreements was said to be one of the reasons why the service wouldn’t be launched in 2018.

The carrier hasn’t addressed any of the reasons in a post on its official blog by Legere himself. He only writes that T-Mobile’s service is going to be out next year, wording it in a way to worry “Big Cable.” He doesn’t offer a timeframe for launch so it’s unclear at this point in time precisely when the T-Mobile TV service might go live in 2019.
