Apple’s efforts on the iPhone’s battery hasn’t really been much, or at least it doesn’t feel that way since every year battery life on the iPhone has more or less remained the same. However according to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that Apple is looking to bolster their battery efforts with their latest hire.

The company has hired Samsung’s battery executive Soonho Ahn who will now be the global head of battery developments at Apple. It is unclear what Ahn will be doing at Apple and whether or not his work will be specifically for the iPhone, or if it could be for batteries in general which would affect the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook laptops as well.

As Bloomberg’s report notes, Apple had previously bought products from Samsung SDI in the past, but as is with Apple’s MO, the company typically prefers to be self-reliant where possible (the company has been rumored to be considering making their own 5G modems, and they also developed a custom GPU for its new iPad Pros).

There have been some rumors that have suggested that Apple’s 2019 iPhones could feature a larger 4,000mAh battery, but whether or not this is thanks to the work of Ahn is unclear, but either way we’re sure that this is something that all iPhone users can probably appreciate.
