Remember back in the early days of the smartphone where more than one manufacturer still believed that people wanted physical keys for their phones? Those days are pretty much behind us, but if you still think that a smartphone with a physical keyboard holds some merit, then you might want to check out tech21’s Evo Type.

The Evo Type is a smartphone case designed for the Google Pixel 3 XL. As you can see from the photo, this is a case that also comes with a physical keyboard. While we have yet to see it or touch it in person, from its looks it kind of reminds us of the Smart Keyboard that Apple uses for its iPad Pros, or the keyboard case that Microsoft uses for its Surface tablets.

Now given how size of our smartphones, we imagine that this case probably can’t be too big and we also have to wonder how tactile it can be without adding too much bulk to the case. The case will feature the use of NFC that connects it to the phone, and can also be angled so that your phone is propped up at an angle for typing.

Also the Evo Type will be a Made for Google product which means that it meets the specifications set out by Google. No word on pricing or availability, but it is currently pegged for a release this spring.
