If recent reports are an indication, Samsung is working on a couple of new Gear-branded devices for this year. The latest suggests that a new pair of the Gear IconX earbuds are in development. These are Samsung’s wireless earbuds that also have some basic activity tracking functionality.
According to the report, Samsung will be launching the new Gear IconX earbuds this year alongside the new Gear Sport smartwatch and the Gear Fit activity tracker.

Details are slim at this point in time but it’s said that the new earbuds will be available in black, white, and yellow colors. They’re also said to feature 8GB of onboard storage which is higher than any Gear-branded product that Samsung has ever released, be it even the Gear smartwatches.

Given that Samsung has now started using the Galaxy branding as well for its smartwatch, there’s a possibility that the earbuds might be renamed as well and brought under the Galaxy umbrella. This is just speculation right now based on what has already happened and there does seem to be a high chance of this happening.

It’s also speculated that the earbuds might offer AKG-tuned audio much like some of Samsung’s smartphones. AKG is owned by Harman International which has been a subsidiary of Samsung for the past couple of years. That’s why so many of Samsung’s devices have been boasting about AKG-tuned audio. No word as yet on when the 2019 Gear IconX earbuds will be launched. They may not arrive before the second half of this year.
