Whirlpool has announced that it’s expanding the mobile capabilities of its connected appliances by launching a Wear OS (Android Wear) app. This will enable smartwatch owners to remotely communicate with select kitchen and laundry appliances from Whirlpool while they’re away from home.

With the Wear OS app, those who own a Whirlpool connected oven will be able to see its current status and control commands during an active cycle. The app will also provide status updates for the washer aside from allowing users to control the wash options of an active cycle. The app will also enable them to control and detect if a dryer cycle has started and keep an eye on the time remaining before the cycle is complete.

In addition to the Wear OS app, Whirlpool has also introduced simplified voice commands to its Smart Lundry applicanes for devices with Google Assistant and Alexa. The company has yet to confirm when these solutions will actually go live.

This isn’t the company’s first foray into the world of smartwatch apps. It announced plans for an Apple Watch app in 2018. This is one of the several smart home product announcements that Whirlpool will be making at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in Las Vegas next week.
