It’s no secret that Sony is working on their next-gen console in the form of the PS5, but when exactly it will launch remains to be seen. Some analysts had previously predicted a late 2019 or 2020 launch, but analyst Yasuo Imanaka, an industry analyst for Rakuten Securities seems to think it could be launching later than that.

According to Imanaka, he claims that Sony’s PS5 might launch in 2021 or even in 2022. While the analyst concedes that there could be a chance of the console released in the fiscal year beginning April 2020, he seems to be of the firm belief that there is virtually no chance of the console being released by March of 2020.

Of course this is merely the opinion of an analyst and is no way a guarantee of Sony’s plans. We are also a tad skeptical of those claims because according to the rumors, Microsoft could be looking to launch a new Xbox console at E3 this year where it could be released in 2020. For Sony to wait until 2021 or even 2022 to release it doesn’t make sense as it potentially gives Microsoft a lead of a couple of years.

This is also dependent on the Xbox rumors being accurate, but hopefully Sony and Microsoft will have some hints to share at E3 later this year. In the meantime Sony has confirmed that there will be a next-gen PlayStation console but has stayed mum on a potential release date.
