Gaming smartphones are niche products as not everybody is willing to pay a premium for phones that can perform slightly better when most premium mid-range and high-end phones are more than enough for casual gaming. Xiaomi tried its hand with gaming smartphones by launching the Black Shark and it appears that the company will launch a second-generation of that phone this spring.

It has been nine months since the original Xiaomi Black Shark was released. The company has now asked its fans in China to provide ideas and suggestions for its next gaming smartphone. Xiaomi’s Product Director Wang Teng Thomas also mentioned on Weibo that he saw the new Black Shark recently and that it’s “too fast.”

Xiaomi hasn’t officially revealed any information about its next gaming smartphone so the details about its specifications are slim at this point in time. Earlier reports have claimed that the device is going to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 8GB of RAM. It may also come with Android 9 Pie out of the box as would be expected of any premium device in 2019.

The company launched its first Black Shark phone in April 2018 so there’s a good chance that its successor might arrive around the same time as well.
