It’s not uncommon for major platforms like Facebook and Instagram to have some downtime and normally it doesn’t take them very long to come back up. Reports are coming in from several markets across the globe this morning that Facebook and Instagram are down for users. Facebook and Instagram have not yet commented on the matter so there’s no official version of events as yet.

It appears that users are able to launch both platforms but are unable to post new content. It’s not possible to send or receive messages on either platform as well. This means that it’s not really possible to get anything done on either platform right now.

According to reports, it seems that Instagram has been hit harder by this downtime. Posts don’t seem to be loading, the button to post new content isn’t working, Stories are down, and direct messages are broken as well. While the mobile app for Facebook Messenger is working, it doesn’t seem to be loading on desktop for some.

DownDetector mentions that the outages have primarily been experienced by users in the United Kingdom, India, the Philippines, New England, Texas, Seattle, Washington, and parts of Latin America. There has been no comment on the matter as yet from either Facebook or Instagram so it’s unclear what has caused this downtime.
