Netflix has had considerable success with its Choose Your Own Adventure-style title Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Multiple endings were filmed and the choices that viewers made during the course of the episode affected the outcome. It was certainly a unique experience as this style of interaction is common with games, not TV shows. With the success of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Netflix now feels that it should be making more interactive shows.

Variety mentions in a report that Netflix product VP Todd Yellin has confirmed the company’s plans to make more interactive shows. He pointed out that the first one turned out to be a huge hit around the world and that “We’re doubling down on that. So expect over the next year or two to see more interactive storytelling.”

Bandersnatch was a particularly grim episode of Netflix’s sci-fi dystopian Black Mirror series. It was a good fit for the first Choose Your Own Adventure-style program but obviously the storyline may not have appealed to all viewers. Yellin pointed out that not all of Netflix’s interactive shows will be based on the same outline.

“It won’t necessarily be science fiction, or it won’t necessarily be dark. It could be a wacky comedy. It could be a romance, where the audience gets to choose, should she go out with him or him,” Yellin said.
