Not a fan of the notch? Don’t worry, it seems that not many companies are either and many have since been trying to come up with alternatives to them, but Oppo could have the most interesting and novel approach we’ve seen to date.

In a render shared on Slashleaks, it shows off the alleged Oppo Reno smartphone where instead of a slideout or popup camera, or a hole-punch in the display, the company could actually be attempting some kind of wedge-shaped popup front-facing camera.

Based on the video above, it seems that launching the camera app and putting it into selfie mode causes the camera to popup by itself, but we’re not sure if you could manually cause it to popup (which in turn automatically launches the camera app).

While we have some mixed feelings about the design, it is interesting to say the least. It also does appear to be a bit more stable compared to the popup camera that we have seen companies like Oppo and Vivo have used in the past, although if we had to go with such a design, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3’s slideout camera does feel the most stable.

That being said, we can’t say with 100% certainty that the render pictured above is the real deal, so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now, but assuming that it could be real, what do you think of it? Is this a design that you can get on board with?
