Samsung was expected to launch their Galaxy Fold foldable smartphone, but due to reports of early review units running into durability issues, the company decided to delay the launch of the smartphone. Samsung has yet to officially confirm when the phones are expected to be ready for shipment, but in the meantime, it seems that they are allowing customers to cancel their orders.

According to emails that are being sent out to customers who had already placed their orders, Samsung has stated that unless they respond and request them to hold onto their order, they will be automatically cancelling the orders. “If we do not hear from you and we have not shipped by May 31st, your order will be canceled automatically. If you do not want your order automatically cancelled on May 31st you may request that we keep your order and fulfil it later.”

Samsung notes in its email that they are still working on “enhancing” the handset to meet their high standards, and as such, they cannot guarantee when customers will receive their orders. “We are making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards we know you expect from us. This means that we cannot confirm the anticipated ship date yet.”

It was expected that the delay would be a couple of weeks, but this email suggests that it could be longer than that. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see when the phone is ready again. In the meantime, hopefully, Samsung’s competitor in the foldable phone space, Huawei, is learning from their mistakes.
