Airlines in the United States who had been using the Boeing 737 Max for their flight operations have been forced to cancel thousands of flights in the coming months as the aircraft remains grounded. It has not been given the all-clear to fly as yet even as Boeing has made fixes to the issues that appear to have caused the two fatal crashes that led to the grounding. American Airlines has also canceled Boeing 737 Max flights through November.
The announcement follows that of United Airlines which confirmed last week that it’s canceling more than 5,000 Boeing 737 Max flights through October.
American Airlines has confirmed that it has extended 737 Max cancelations through November 2nd while reiterating that it remains confident about the impending software updates for the aircraft and the new training elements that Boeing has developed in coordination with its union partners.
The airline points out that this means around 115 flights per day on average will be canceled through November 2nd. Not all flights that were previously scheduled on this aircraft will be canceled. American Airlines will substitute other aircraft types for the flights. It also mentions that if a flight is canceled and a customer chooses to not be rebooked, they will be able to request a full refund from the airline.
