Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Polyphony Digital is working on the next installment in the Gran Turismo franchise. While he may not have been too keen on the first generation PlayStation VR, it’s possible that he may give the technology a chance for the new title, hinting at the possibility that the new Gran Turismo could have support for the PlayStation VR.

Yamauchi confirmed to GTPlanet that a new Gran Turismo title is in development. No further details have been given at this point in time. However, one can reasonably assume that the title is going to arrive on the next-generation PlayStation console that’s due in 2020. This means the title will get improved performance and graphics, possibly even VR support.

“I don’t think that there’s anything else that requires that much processing power. I really like VR; I’m one to believe in the possibilities of it, and it’s very suited for a driving game,” he said, which suggests that perhaps VR support is being looked into for the new Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo Sport did have very basic PSVR integration and fans of the franchise would obviously prefer it to have a more substantial virtual reality element. Perhaps the performance improvements in the next console will enable the developer to deliver that.
