The Nintendo Switch shares very similar hardware as devices like the NVIDIA Tegra gaming tablets which run on Android, and as such, it was not a complete surprise to learn that there were some modders who managed to get Android up and running on the console. It seems that development of this mod has come a long way because it is expected that in the next few days, an unofficial Android ROM for the console will be available for download.

The ROM for the Switch is said to be based on LineageOS 15.1 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo, which means that as far as users are concerned, it is a pretty up-to-date build of Android. We’re not sure if there are plans to create a ROM based on Android Q, but for now we reckon it’s still a pretty solid build.

For those who are hesitant about modding their Switch consoles and installing the ROM, the developers have simplified the overall process which makes it look surprisingly easy. However, before you rush out and start downloading the mod, we should point out that Nintendo doesn’t look favorably on modders who modify the console.

We have heard reports that Nintendo has been banning gamers who are running modified Switch systems, so only proceed with this mod if you don’t mind getting banned.
