The concept of smart scales isn’t exactly new. In fact, if anything, we have to wonder why they weren’t created a lot sooner. That being said, Fitbit actually has created a couple of smart scales in the past in their Aria lineup, although they weren’t exactly cheap. However, if you are interested in such a device, you’re in luck.

This is because Fitbit has since announced the Aria Air, the company’s latest smart scale which they claim they have designed with affordability in mind. At its core it is still a weighing scale so it will be able to take your weight. However, it will also come with Bluetooth built into the scale where it will be able to track your weight and sync it with the Fitbit app.

This in turn allows the app to do calculations on your behalf, such as your body’s BMI and also shows you trends over time alongside your activities, heart rate, sleep, nutritional data, and so on.

According to James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit, “Whether someone is looking to manage their weight, improve their fitness level, or manage a chronic condition, we’ve had a significant impact on the lives of millions of people. In fact, 73 percent of Fitbit users who set a weight loss goal reduced their weight after six months of tracking it, demonstrating the power of the Fitbit platform to help users reach their goals.”

The Fitbit Aria Air will be priced at $50 and will be available for pre-order this September.
