Companies like Facebook run all kinds of experiments for new products and features, some of which eventually becomes a mainstay feature, while others eventually get discontinued. Now, some of you might recall that back in December 2018, Facebook launched Group Stories, which is basically Stories but designed for Facebook Groups.

However, it seems that while in theory there is some practical application for the feature, people weren’t using it as much as Facebook would have liked. So much so that the company has confirmed that they will be shutting the feature down. The feature will be sunset on the 26th of September at 9AM PT.

In a statement released to CNET, a Facebook spokesman said, “We’re sunsetting group stories because we want to make sure that features in groups enable people to connect in fun and useful ways, and we’re always looking at ways to improve the overall experience for communities on Facebook.”

Existing Stories posted in Groups will be deleted on the 26th of September and users will no longer be able to post new ones either. Note that this is for Group Stories and if you do enjoy the Stories feature for Facebook, the individual ones are still very much available.
