BlizzCon 2019 will be taking place next month and it is Blizzard’s biggest event of the year. Given that Blizzard typically avoids events like E3, this usually means that BlizzCon will see the company announce new games and expansions and reveal things that they are working on, and it seems that there could be a chance that Diablo 4 might be announced this year.

This is according to a tweet by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier who claims that Blizzard will be making a “big announcement” at BlizzCon this year. Apparently this is to make up for last year’s “PR blowup”. In case you are unfamiliar with the “PR blowup”, last year it was speculated that Blizzard would be announcing Diablo 4. Instead, Blizzard announced a mobile version of Diablo called Diablo Immortals.

This led to huge backlash from fans who did not seem thrilled at the idea of a mobile version of Diablo. However, to be fair, Blizzard did caution fans ahead of the event that they might not announce Diablo 4, but it was still met by backlash nonetheless. Based on Schreier’s tweet and reference to a “PR blowup”, we can only assume that this could somehow be Diablo related, but this is just our speculation.

Whether or not BlizzCon this year will bring us Diablo 4 remains to be seen, but Blizzard has been coming under fire in recent times, so we imagine that the company probably needs something a little more positive to put themselves back in the good graces of their customers.
