The last time we saw a new BioShock game, it was in 2013 when 2K Games launched BioShock Infinite. The title was not a direct sequel to BioShock 2, despite it existing in the same universe and offering up a similar playstyle. However, the good news is that if you’re looking forward to a direct sequel to BioShock 2, you could be in luck.

This is because according to Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K Games, during the company’s earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted that they could be announcing BioShock 3 in the near future. Zelnick was quoted as saying that gamers could expect “sequels from our biggest franchises as well as exciting new IP”.

While there is no direct mention of BioShock 3, it seems to make sense. This is because Red Dead Redemption 2 was released not too long ago, which leaves other franchises such as Grand Theft Auto and BioShock. Back in 2015, 2K reassured fans of the franchise that BioShock would be a permanent franchise so gamers don’t need to worry about the company forgetting or abandoning it.

In fact, there was a report from 2018 that hinted that a new BioShock game was in development. There is no word on when the game will be announced, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
