It’s not that difficult to turn photos into animated GIFs, but if you’ve ever wanted to be inserted into an existing GIF, well, that would be kind of tricky. However, Snapchat has you covered as the company seems to be testing out a new feature called Cameo that would basically insert your face into a GIF.

As TechCrunch points out, in a way this new Cameo feature is similar to deepfakes, where a face of a person is superimposed onto a body of another person. However, deepfakes use AI to help make it seem more natural and seamless, whereas Snapchat’s Cameo feature feels a lot more basic.

However, this is not necessarily a bad thing as we imagine that this was created to be a fun tool as opposed to trying to fool another person into thinking that it is you. Users will be required to snap a selfie which will then be used in the GIF where there will be several options for users to choose from.

Snapchat has since confirmed that the feature does indeed exist, but they note that they are currently testing it and that it isn’t available to everyone just yet (some users in France are reporting to have received it).
