The original two Baldur’s Gate games have cemented their place as being some of the best RPG games to have been made. Undoubtedly many were sad when the game seemingly came to an end, but if you have been following the news, you might have heard how the folks at Larian Studios have decided to created a third game in the franchise.

Now a new opening cinematic has been released and boy, does it look good. While the first two games saw the player learn and come to grips with being one of the offspring of the god Bhaal, the third title in the Baldur’s Gate series seems to focus on the Illithids, or mind flayers, who appear to be the main antagonist in the game.

At the moment it is unclear what the exact story of the game will be, but judging from the cinematic, it involves a lot of dragons. The trailer was released at PAX East where Larian Studios also showed off some of the gameplay. Unlike the original two games which relied on an isometric design, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been created to look a bit more modern.

We’re sure that many gamers will no doubt miss the hand drawn backgrounds and graphics that were present in the first two games, but hopefully the gameplay of the third game will live up to its predecessors. The game is currently set for a release on Steam Early Access later this year.
