If you were hoping to see a new mirrorless camera from Sony, you might be disappointed because according to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that the company might have cancelled plans for a new mirrorless camera. The report claims that this is due to DRAM constraints in which Sony has decided to focus on the development of its upcoming PS5 console.

According to the report, “Sony has reportedly shelved plans to develop a new mirrorless camera this year owing to the constrained DRAM supply. The company is instead focusing on the launch of PS5, keeping the pricing factor under wraps.”

The report adds, “The company’s biggest headache is ensuring a reliable supply of DRAM and NAND flash memory, with both in high demand as smartphone makers gear up for fifth-generation devices, according to people familiar with Sony’s operations.” That being said, the report does not mention which potential mirrorless camera was cancelled.

Sony does have a pretty wide range of mirrorless cameras, ranging from more budget-friendly models to higher-end full frame models aimed at professionals, so we’ll just have to wait and see which model does not get refreshed in order to get a better idea of which camera the company might have cancelled.

There was also no mention if Sony has plans to potentially revisit the camera once supply is back at normal levels.
