It has been about four years since Niantic unleashed Pokemon GO on the world. The game revolutionized the social aspects of gaming and also proved that AR gaming most definitely had a place in the mainstream. However, fast forward to today, is Pokemon GO still relevant given all the new games that have since been released?

It turns out that is very much the case because according to the numbers, Pokemon GO has actually earned an eye-watering $1 billion in 2020 alone, and that’s only counting the first 10 months, which means that by the end of 2020, the game would most definitely have pulled in $1 billion in revenue just for the year alone.

To give you some context, when Pokemon GO first launched, it managed to earn $950 million in the first six months, so the fact that the game has managed to beat its previous earnings four years down the road is only proving that the game has not quite lost its magic and is still a massive earner for Niantic.

It’s actually rather surprising given that one of the attractive aspects of Pokemon GO was that players had to go out into the world to play the game, but the coronavirus certainly put a damper on that. However, Niantic was quick to react by coming up with alternatives and workarounds, which based on these earnings, seemed to have been largely appreciated by gamers.
