The first Suicide Squad movie was released to less than favorable reviews, but as some of you have heard, the folks at DC announced that they would be rebooting the franchise with director James Gunn, probably best known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2.

For those wondering how Gunn could interpret the movie, you’ll be pleased to learn that the official trailer for the movie has since been released. While it is only a trailer, from what we can see it seems to be a more lighthearted and more R-rated version of the first movie. What’s interesting is that while it is a reboot, it does reuse some of the original characters and the original actors that portrayed them.

This includes the likes of Margot Robbie who will return as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Walker. It will also introduce new characters such as Idris Elba who plays Bloodsport, although it was initially intended that Elba would take over Will Smith’s Deadshot character, but they later changed this to allow Smith to possibly return for future movies.

It looks like a very fun movie and we can’t help but draw comparisons to Gunn’s work on Guardians of the Galaxy, which isn’t a bad thing, so hopefully this will be the Suicide Squad movie we deserve. The Suicide Squad is currently set for a release on the 6th of August, 2021 where it will be available in both cinemas and HBO Max on the same day.
