When Sony announced the PS5, they also introduced a brand new controller in the form of the DualSense. However, when Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X and S, the controller did not look too different. It looked like the one that came with the Xbox One but with some minor changes, nothing particularly exciting and nothing that necessarily screams next-gen.

For those who felt that Microsoft might have missed an opportunity, you’ll be pleased to learn that the company could be looking to fix that. During the latest episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast, Xbox boss Phil Spencer seemed to suggest that they might be looking to launch an updated version of its controller for the Xbox Series X and S.

According to Spencer, as transcribed by VGC, “We’re definitely thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places. There’s probably some work we’ll do on [the] controller. I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller, we kind of look at some of that [and think] ‘Are there things that we should go do?’.”

Of course when exactly this new controller will debut is anyone’s guess. The Xbox Series X and S are still less than a year old so maybe we shouldn’t expect to see a refreshed controller so soon, but either way, it’s something that gamers can keep an eye out for.
