Apart from display size, one of the ways Apple distinguishes the MacBook Pros from each other was their processor. The larger MacBook Pros were typically positioned as the more powerful MacBook Pro in the lineup, but it seems that with the upcoming refresh, that may no longer be the case.

According to Twitter user Dylan, he has shared a rumor which claims for the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, Apple is expected to use the same CPUs for both models. This means that in terms of CPU performance alone, they are said to be identical. This is versus the M1 chipset that launched last year where the 13-inch MacBook Pro had an additional unlocked core versus the MacBook Air, giving it a slight edge in performance.

It is possible that the GPUs used in the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros might be different, along with their storage options, but as far as CPUs are concerned, they are both going to be identical. In a way it’s not a bad thing because it simply means that users will now have to decide which size suits them better.

We’re not sure about pricing yet so size and pricing could also be a factor in users choosing between either model. Either way, Apple is expected to announce their new Macs in the coming months, so we should have all the official details soon enough.
