While Razer might have kind of kicked off the whole gaming smartphone trend, we have to say that ASUS seems to be the one carrying the torch these days. In fact, the company has launched their latest set of gaming phones in the form of the ASUS ROG Phone 5s and the 5s Pro.
Externally, these phones share a lot of similarities with the ASUS ROG Phone 5, but under the hood is where most of the changes have been made. Both phones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset, with the ROG Phone 5s packing 16GB of RAM, while the 5s Pro will come with a whopping 18GB of RAM.
Both displays will remain the same at 6.78-inches and will use AMOLED technology, along with a variable 144Hz refresh rate (meaning it doesn’t stay at 144Hz all the time). ASUS claims that they did make some improvements to the touch sampling rate and pushed it up to 360Hz, but whether or not you can tell the difference remains to be seen, but it should improve overall responsiveness.
As for the cameras, the phones will pack a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor on the back, and will pair it with a 13MP ultra-wide camera and a 5MP macro sensor, and there will also be a 24MP front-facing shooter. ASUS notes that the ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro will support the same accessories as the ROG Phone 5, so if you’re thinking of upgrading, you won’t be wasting your accessories.
In terms of price, the ASUS ROG Phone 5s will be priced starting at around $1,077, while the Pro version will go for around $1,365.
