While MagSafe isn’t the true wireless charging system that we were hoping for, it has its uses. Apart from charging, MagSafe actually makes for a pretty handy way of clipping the iPhone to surfaces. In fact, Otterbox has come up with a pretty ingenious use for it and that comes in the form of a gaming controller clip.

As you can see in the image above, instead of relying on clamps, this clip lets you secure an iPhone to a gaming controller using MagSafe. This not only makes it easier for you to attach it to a controller, but makes it easier for you to take it off. The clip itself can also double up as a kickstand of sorts if you want to lay it on top of a table.

Unfortunately, there will be some limitations in terms of compatibility. According to the company, the clip will only work with the new Xbox Series X/S controller, the Xbox One wireless controller, and the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. So if you’re using a different brand or model, there is a chance it may not work.

Also, given that the iPhone 12 series is the only iPhone at the moment with MagSafe support, those with older iPhones are out of luck. If you’re interested, the MagSafe clip is available for purchase via Otterbox’s website for $40 (controller and iPhone not included, obviously).
