In 2018, Facebook unveiled their first video calling device called the Portal. The company later followed up with more Portal devices that came in various form factors and sizes, and now it looks like Facebook is pushing ahead as they have since announced two brand new Portals – the Portal Go and the Portal Plus.

Starting with the Portal Go, this is a 10-inch gadget whose selling point would be its portability. It can be powered by a battery which means that you will be able to use it wherever you go as long as you have an active internet connection. It does retain features like automatic panning, focusing, and zooming, despite it being more portable, and a built-in shutter for privacy.

As for the Portal Plus, this is a 14-inch device that’s essentially an upgrade over the original Portal. However, Facebook seems to have ditched the swivel display that allows it to go from portrait to landscape view, so if you’re not too fussed about that, then we suppose it’s not really a big deal.

Given that this is a Facebook product, it’s not surprising that there is support for platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, but in case those aren’t your jam, it will also work with other video conferencing software like Zoom, Webex, BlueJeans, and GoToMeeting, and come December there are plans to expand support to Microsoft Teams.

The new Portal Go will be priced at $199 and the Portal Plus at $349 and are being planned for a launch on the 19th of October, but pre-orders are currently open on Facebook’s website.
