Last year, it was announced that NVIDIA would be acquiring ARM, the company whose technology and design has been used in many chipsets we’ve seen in Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, and so on. However, this was something that quite a number of tech companies had opposed.

In fact, over in the UK, the government announced that they would be blocking the deal, and it turns out that over in the US, the FTC has decided that they will oppose the deal as well. So much so that the FTC has launched a lawsuit in which they are hoping would block NVIDIA’s attempts to acquire ARM.

According to the FTC’s announcement, “The proposed vertical deal would give one of the largest chip companies control over the computing technology and designs that rival firms rely on to develop their own competing chips. The FTC’s complaint alleges that the combined firm would have the means and incentive to stifle innovative next-generation technologies, including those used to run datacenters and driver-assistance systems in cars.”

While NVIDIA might be known by many as a company that makes GPUs used in computers, the company does do quite a number of things including tech that could be used to power self-driving cars in the future, artificial intelligence, and more.
