Motorola is expanding its foldable portfolio in a significant new direction with the Razr Fold, its first large-format foldable smartphone, marking a clear step beyond the familiar clamshell design that has defined the Razr brand in recent years. Following the launch of the Razr flip lineup earlier in 2025, the Razr Fold positions Motorola squarely in the book-style foldable category, targeting users who want a phone that can double as a compact tablet.
The Razr Fold features an 8.1-inch 2K LTPO main display, offering a noticeably larger canvas than Motorola’s flip models. The use of LTPO technology suggests adaptive refresh rates, helping balance smooth visuals with power efficiency. When folded, the device retains full functionality through a 6.6-inch external display, large enough to support everyday tasks without opening the device. This outer screen size puts the Razr Fold closer to conventional smartphones, reducing friction when switching between folded and unfolded use.
Camera hardware is another area where Motorola is aiming high. The Razr Fold is equipped with a triple 50-megapixel rear camera system, built around a Sony LYTIA sensor for the main camera. It is joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera with macro support and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens, covering a wide range of shooting scenarios. For selfies and video calls, Motorola includes a 32MP camera on the external display and a 20MP camera on the internal display, allowing flexible framing whether the device is open or closed. Video capture supports Dolby Vision recording, aligning with premium multimedia workflows.
On the software side, Motorola emphasizes features designed specifically for the larger foldable form factor. These include flexible layouts, adaptive interfaces, and multitasking enhancements that leverage the expanded screen real estate. The Razr Fold also supports the moto pen ultra stylus, signaling productivity and creative use cases beyond casual consumption.
In terms of design, the Razr Fold will be available in PANTONE Blackened Blue and PANTONE Lily White, continuing Motorola’s collaboration with Pantone to differentiate its devices through curated finishes.
While Motorola says more specifications will be shared in the coming months, the Razr Fold already represents a meaningful evolution of the Razr family. By pairing a large internal display with a practical outer screen and a flagship-grade camera system, Motorola aims to compete seriously in the large-format foldable segment.
The Razr Fold will be one of our Ubergizmo’s Best of CES 2026.
